BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Shikuma is an Associate Professor of Biology at San Diego State University. His research program combines microbiology, genetics and developmental biology to study how bacteria stimulate the metamorphic development of marine animals and Contractile Injection Systems (CIS) in human gut bacteria that promote host-microbe associations. Dr. Shikuma has published research articles in Science, PNAS and eLife and is a recipient of an NSF CAREER award, Sloan Foundation Fellowship in Ocean Sciences and Moore Foundation Symbiosis in Aquatic Systems grant.
